考研英语阅读须领会“醉翁之意”

　　《武林外传》中吕秀才为了向郭芙蓉讨回她欠他的二钱银子，用了各种方法都行不通，于是秀才又生一计，暗示。二钱银子，暗示二。“我就想问你，有没有听过天下第二泉呐。我听人说起过二次，天下第二泉里有个二清观，道观里有二个道士……”我们在考研阅读里也要有这个意识，考官表面上在问你A，其实是为了考B。这种例子比比皆是，以2006年的两道题为例。

　　例1：(2006，text1)Rodriguez notes that children in remote villages around the world are fans of superstars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Garth Brooks, yet “some Americans fear that immigrants living within the United States remain somehow immune to the nation’s assimilative power.”

　　题目：Why are Arnold Schwarzenegger and Garth Brooks mentioned in Paragraph 5?

　　[A] To prove their popularity around the world.

　　[B] To reveal the public’s fear of immigrants.

　　[C] To give examples of successful immigrants.

　　[D] To show the powerful influence of American culture.

　　2006年text1里的一道题目，问你 Arnold Schwarzenegger and Garth Brooks被提及是为了什么，在做这种题时，看到题干信息是在转折句的前面，我们就要有非常敏锐的意识，考官在考你转折句的内容。我们先来理解一下转折句的意思：“一些美国人担心居住在美国的移民者依然以某种方式不受这个国家同化力量的影响。”我们知道yet前后的意思相反，所以yet前面的意思是：移民受美国同化力量的影响。这样我们就知道了作者用这两个人名是为了说明这一点，所以答案也应该是：移民受美国同化力量的影响。而D选项：“为了展现美国文化的强大影响力”就与之相近。这道题难在有论据没有正面论点，来了一个反面论点，所以需要根据这个反面论点来推论正面论点的意思。

　　例2：(2006，text2)The townsfolk don’t see it this way and the local council does not contribute directly to the subsidy of the Royal Shakespeare Company. Stratford cries poor traditionally. Nevertheless every hotel in town seems to be adding a new wing or cocktail lounge. Hilton is building its own hotel there, which you may be sure will be decorated with Hamlet Hamburger Bars, the Lear Lounge, the Banquo Banqueting Room, and so forth, and will be very expensive.

　　题目：By saying “Stratford cries poor traditionally” (Line 2-3, Paragraph 4), the author implies that ________.

　　[A] Stratford cannot afford the expansion projects

　　[B] Stratford has long been in financial difficulties

　　[C] the town is not really short of money

　　[D] the townsfolk used to be poorly paid

　　这个题目较上一个题目要简单一些，文中说“S历来有哭穷的传统”，然后用了一个转折词，nevertheless，其实后面的内容即使看不懂也没有关系，转折词的出现就是对前面内容的否定，可见事实是它并不穷。这个题也是很明显地在考转折句，但却是拿出转折词前面的东西来问你，醉翁之意不在酒。
